San Pedro De Atacama
The town of San Pedro De Atacama is located within the Atacama desert and has plenty to offer the intrepid traveller. The town itself although relatively small contains a beautiful traditionally built white church of San Pedro as well as other buildings such as the Gustavo Le Paige museum, a few eateries and hotels The surrounding area offers several unique destinations that take advantage of the areas stunning geographic location.
- Los Flamencos National Reserve
This vast nature reserve features some surprises from the Atacama Salt Deposits to the rugged desert area of the Valle de la Luna which is also called Moon Valley due to its remarkable similarity. The surrounding areas of the park are contain beautiful lagoons and lakes, all of which are incredibly rich in wildlife containing birds such as the Andean Flamingo which provide a stunning sight.
- Valle de la Luna
Also known as Moon Valley, this unique area is popular for its dramatic terrain which has incredible similarities to the surface of the moon. There are several interesting rock formations, sand dunes and caverns and the
view at sunset is an unforgettable and colorful experience over this terrific landscape.
- Tatio Geysers
The active geyser field is superbly located within the Andes mountain range, surrounded by volcano's and is best visited at sunrise where the condensed steam that rises from each one is most visible.
- Salar de Atacama
The Salar de Atacama is a vast salt flat that is surrounded by a stunning mountainous backdrop in the distance. Within the salt flats are Laguna Miscanti and Lagunas Cejas
the latter of which is a stunning blue lagoon that contains a high concentration of salt, which is popular with Flamingo's and visitors as well who enjoy swimming and floating in the salty lagoon.
- Stone Fortress
The National Monument of Pukara de Quitor is a ruined stoned fortress that is located near to the town of Atacma in one of the most rugged areas of Chile. The fortress has a fascinating history and was built by the Atacamenians to act as a defensive fort.

Located within the town of San Pedro de Atacama is the fascinating archeological museum which contains a wealth of knowledge about the culture and history of the Atacamenians.

The town of San Pedro de Atacama
is in the northern province of El Loa in the Antofagasta region which is approximately 100 kilometers away from the city of Calama.

Located in the north of Chile travel is first to the city of Calama and then onwards to San Pedro de Atacama.
- Coach
There are plenty of long distance coaches that regularly travel from Santiago to Calama, on reaching Calama you then proceed by bus to San Pedro de Atacama.
- Bus
The bus journey takes over two hours from Calama to reach San Pedro de Atacama, with plenty of regular services.
- Car
From Santiago, the city of Calama is around 1,500 kilometers and the journey will take approximately a day and a half to reach travelling along Ruta 5 where you will pass through Coquimbo along the way.
- Plane
There are regular flights from Santiago to the city of Calama and this is often the quickest and most comfortable way to reach the city. From Calama you will then need to travel by bus to reach San Pedro de Atacama.
