- Assumption Day (Asuncion de la Virgin)
Assumption Day is a public holiday that takes place on the 15th August and symbolizes the day in which
the Virgin Mary was taken up into heaven at the end of her life on earth. On this day there are often religious processions through the street where statues and pictures of Mary are carried high and beautifully decorated with flowers, often accompanied by marching bands and other street entertainment.
